The Cracked Nut – Dec 13th & 14th

Join us for a holiday tradition with a contemporary twist! Kinetics Dance Theatre’s Student Companies present The Cracked Nut on Friday, December 13th at 7pm and Saturday, December 14th at 3pm and 7pm, at the Howard County Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre. The Cracked Nut incorporates ballet, modern and contemporary dance styles to tell the classic story of Clara and her journey to the magical Land of Sweets. However, there are a few surprises along the way, as this is not your traditional Nutcracker! This hour-long performance is great for families with young children, both boys and girls.

As a non-profit organization, we are devoted to the development of contemporary dance as a vital art form within the community through performance, education, and outreach. Kinetics Student Companies are comprised of four groups of dancers in fourth through twelfth grade. The companies are directed by Alex J. Krebs and Liz Quinones.

What is Company?

Our four student companies are comprised of dancers in grades 4-12. Participating in company involves a commitment to class and rehearsal beyond normal class expectations and is intended for dancers who wish to hone their technique and performance skills. Time commitments are included; additional rehearsals may be called in preparation for performances. In addition to regular rehearsals company members will have the opportunity to work with different choreographers in a variety of dance genres, perform throughout the year at various venues in the community, attend the annual Howard County Community Dance Festival (a weekend of master classes and performances culminating in a student showcase), perform in Company productions in December and April, take part in an informal student choreography showcase, and have their work featured in the Kinetics End-of-the-Year showcase. Participation in company involves yearly company dues (listed below) as well as a commitment to fundraising.

Audition dates for the 2018-2019 Student Company season will be held during the summer. We will hold two audition dates, but dancers will only need to attend one of the auditions.
