Creative Beginnings - Ages 2-8

Parent and Child/Movement and Song* (Ages 2-3)
Encourage your child’s imagination as you explore creative dance using music, stories, props and movement with your child.

Creative Dance* (Ages 3-4)
Introduces children to the joy of moving using stories, props and lots of imagination. A wonderful way to start your child in dance!

Ballerina Basics** (Ages 4-6)
This class introduces pre-ballet movements, grace and self-control in a creative and nurturing environment. This is a beginner-level class. No experience necessary.

Dance Basics (Ages 4-5)
An introduction to pre-ballet/tap movement and basic dance skills, incorporating loco motor and rhythmic patterns.

Dance Basics for Boys (Ages 4-6)
An approachable introduction to basic dance and tap skills designed for boys. Students will learn basic ballet steps, build loco motor skills and learn to develop rhythmic patterns using imagery and themes such as animals, superheroes, outer space and more!

Dance Fundamentals (Ages 5-6)
Students build on their knowledge of very basic ballet and tap movement. Movement patterns become more complex as students develop sustained attention.

Pre-Modern (Ages 6-8)
Introduces students to basic concepts and vocabulary of modern dance in a process emphasizing exploration, creativity, and self-discovery.

Pre-Ballet (Ages 6-8)
Introduces students to beginning ballet positions, movement and traveling steps. Emphasis on fundamental ballet arm and leg positions and vocabulary.

Pre-Jazz (Ages 6-8)
Introduces the student to syncopated rhythm patterns, isolated movement of the body and simple jazz traveling sequences.

Pre-Hip Hop (Ages 6-8)
A high energy dance class based on street dancing that uses music with a good beat. Class focuses on dancing to the rhythm of the music while learning basic techniques and introducing freestyle dancing.

Pre-Tap (Ages 6-8)
Introduces basic movement and rhythmic patterns in the tap dance vocabulary.

Modern, Ballet, Jazz - Ages 8 - 18

Level 1 Ballet, Modern (Ages 8-12)
In both Ballet and Modern, students begin to combine movements into phrases while building vocabulary and technique. Many students take Level 1 for two or more years to master their skills before moving to Level 2.

Level 1 Jazz (Ages 8-12)
Both Jazz and Tap introduce movement phrases that grow longer and more complex, while expanding their dance vocabulary. Many students take Level 1 for two or more years to master their skills before moving to Level 2.

Level 2 Ballet, Modern (Ages 9-14)
Students develop and build on Level 1 skills. More emphasis on technique, dance vocabulary, and movement combinations. Students usually take two or more years of Level 2before moving to the next level.

Level 2 Jazz (Ages 9-14)
Skills acquired in Level 1 classes form the basis for executing more complex steps and movements, and to combine them into longer phrases. Students usually take two or more years of Level 2 before moving to the next level.

Level 3 - Ballet, Jazz and Modern (Ages 11-up)
These classes start where Level 1 and 2 leave off, with greater emphasis on alignment, technique, phrasing, and complex movement sequences. Prerequisite: two or more years in Level 2 are often needed prior to moving to Level 3.

Level 4 – Ballet, Jazz and Modern (Ages 13-up)
Reviews skills taught in Level 3 classes and emphasizes further development and mastery. In Modern, a range of the now-”classic” styles are introduced. Prerequisite: Completion and mastering of Level 3 skills. Two or more years in Level 3 may be needed prior to moving to Level 4.

Level 5 – Ballet, Jazz and Modern (Ages 15-up)
Our most advanced levels work with skilled technical execution, nuance in performance abilities, and knowledge of a range of Ballet and Modern styles, choreographers, and trends. Prerequisite: Completion and mastery of Level 4 skills.

Open Ballet and Modern Technique Classes (Ages 11-up)
These classes are open level technique classes and are open to students and adults recommended for levels 3-5. This class will place emphasis on building technique throughout the year and will focus on alignment, technique, phrasing, and complex movement sequences. For Open Ballet Technique, students in Level 1 or Level 2 Pointe may take part or all of the class en pointe. This is a non-performance class. Prerequisite: Students Level 3 or higher or Intermediate through Advanced Level Adults.

Dance Improvisation & Partnering (Ages 11-up)
Dance Improvisation and Partnering is a class that offers students a chance to explore improvisational movement in a structured setting. The class will help the students to become comfortable with improvisational dance as well as partnering through the use of dance exercises. Partnering techniques will be taught along-side anatomy lessons to provide greater understanding of how the human body moves and supports weight. In Dance Improvisation and Partnering students will learn their habits, strengths and weaknesses in dance in order to become more well-rounded dancers. Prerequisite: Students Level 3 or higher or Intermediate through Advanced Level Adults.

Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Composition - Ages 8 - 18

Musical Theatre 1 (Ages 9-13)
Budding performers will enjoy this energetic introduction to the music and dance styles of Broadway. Students will learn show tunes with choreography.

Musical Theatre 2 (Ages 13-up)
Musical theatre combines music, song, dance, and spoken dialogue. An energetic study of show tunes and Broadway style choreography for students interested in musicals. No experience is necessary.

Boys Hip-Hop* (Ages 8-12)
Come learn hip-hop in an environment just for boys! This is a beginner level hip hop class that teaches basic hip hop moves paired with fun, high energy dance combinations.

Hip-Hop 1 (Ages 8-12)
A high energy dance class based on street dancing that uses popular hip hop and pop music. The basics moves are introduced in this class.

Hip-Hop 2 (Ages 10-13)
A high energy dance class based on street dancing that uses popular hip hop and pop music. Isolations of body parts and specific dynamics characterize this style.

Hip-Hop 3 (Ages 12-15)
A high energy dance class based on street dancing that uses popular hip hop and pop music. Dynamics and isolation of the different parts of the body make this form easily recognizable.

Hip-Hop 4 (Ages 14 - up)
A high energy dance class based on street dancing that uses popular hip hop and pop music. This is our most advanced level and will challenge students choreographically.

Lyrical I (Ages 9-13), II (Ages 12-up) III (ages 15 - up)
Learn to express yourself through the music, lyrics and movement in this free flowing dance class. This class is a blend of modern dance and ballet, executed to contemporary music with meaning and definition.

Tap I (Ages 8-11), II (Ages 11-15), and III (Ages 14-up)
The basic elements of tap dancing combine into increasingly complex phrases.

Dance Composition I (Ages 9-12) and II (Ages 13-up)
Learn to create original choreography and explore the craft of choreography. You’ll learn how to use choreographic tools to compose your own dance works.

Adult Dance: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Tap

Whether you’re a novice, studied years ago, or currently take classes, come join us! Our atmosphere is friendly and flexible -- you can register for the year or drop in. Offerings vary, so please check our current schedule. We will also offer master classes and workshops throughout the year, so keep posted!

Beginner Adult Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Tap (Ages 18-up)
Designed for adults with little or no previous experience in the chosen discipline. Students learn and practice basic dance techniques, terminology, and phrases and patterns. This class is easy going and adults can progress at their own pace and as plenty of questions along the way!

Intermediate Adult Ballet, Modern and Tap (Ages 18-up)
This class has been designed for adults with recent dance experience or for those who trained heavily when they were younger, but have not danced much since. Barre and center work will be given in simple combinations to allow for adults to move at their own pace. Our Tap classes will have two Intermediate levels. Intermediate 1 will be the transition between our Beginning Adult Tap class and our Intermediate 2 Adult Tap class. Our Intermediate 2 class will bridge the gap between an Intermediate and Advanced level tap class.

Open Ballet and Modern Technique Classes (Ages 11-Adult)

Hip Hop *
Get ready to work your body in ways you never imagined! This class uses exciting hip hop movements to keep you moving and grooving. This is a high energy, fast moving, dance aerobics class. Whether you are a beginner dancer or have years of experience, this class will work you out and refine your swagger.

Yoga & Fitness

Hatha Yoga 1* and 2
Hatha Yoga strengthens the body and improves flexibility while increasing relaxation and reducing stress. Become aware of breathing techniques, meditation and chakras (energy centers).*

Power Yoga*
This Asthanga-based yoga class is an energizing, athletic way of practicing yoga postures. It emphasizes strength, flexibility and stamina while creating yoga’s calm awareness to the mind and body. A superb stress reducer!*

Pilates-Mat Class
The Pilates Method is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the whole body without building bulk. It is a series of controlled movements that provide a refreshing and energizing workout.*

Yogalates**
A fusion of the ancient discipline of yoga with modern Pilates techniques, this class develops core strength, tones muscles, increases flexibility, and reduces stress. Beginning and ongoing students are welcome. *

Dance Fitness
Dance and exercise collide in this exhilarating class that puts fun, easy-to-follow dance moves to great music old and new! You won't be able to keep still! Wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes; bring a towel and water bottle. No experience required!

Barre Burn**
Ballet movements combine with floor work and fitness exercises for a full workout. Sculpt and tone your body while gaining a dancer’s sense of alignment and physical control. Comfortable clothes, no shoes. Please bring 3lb – 4lb weights. Mats are provided, but please bring your own if you have one.

Mixed Abilities Classes

 

Teen Technique Combo (ages 13-18) & Adult Technique Combo (ages 16+)

<spanclass="text_exposed_show">Technique Combo classes will provide training in a variety of dance genres with the goal to build technique and artistry in a fun and nurturing environment. Comprised of a series of mini-workshops, the weekly class will include “units” in modern dance, ballet, and jazz, as well as guest classes in tap, hip hop, LaBlast, and other genres. 

Movement and Expression  (ages 13-18)

A more free-form class, Movement and Expression will guide students in movement and dance exercises with an emphasis in building body awareness and exploring spatial patterns through gross and fine motor activities, with instructors offering assistance and modification when needed. Students will have the opportunity to learn and replicate dance movements in an inclusive classroom environment dedicated to strengthening peer interactions and building confidence.
